Can you read my emails?

No. Email content is read into memory, pushed to Gmail via the API over a secure channel, and discarded. It is never written to disk, never stored on our servers, and never scanned or analyzed.

Is my Gmail account safe?

We use Google OAuth, so you authenticate directly with Google and we never see your Gmail password. PopRelay requests two Gmail scopes: gmail.insert (import messages) and gmail.labels (create/manage labels). That's it. We cannot read, search, modify, or delete your existing email. We passed a CASA Tier 2 security audit, an independent assessment Google requires for apps accessing Gmail, covering application security, data handling, and infrastructure controls. You can verify our permissions anytime in your Google Account settings.

What about my POP3 password?

Your POP3 password is encrypted with AES-256-GCM the moment you submit it. The encryption key is stored separately from the encrypted data. Your password is only decrypted at sync time to connect to your POP3 server.

Do you comply with privacy regulations?

We store only what's needed to run syncs: POP3 credentials encrypted with AES-256-GCM, and OAuth tokens encrypted at rest. Email content passes through to Gmail and is not stored on our servers. Our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service detail our retention and deletion practices.

Who's behind PopRelay?

We created 33mail.com, an email forwarding service trusted by over 500,000 users since 2011. PopRelay is built on that same experience running email infrastructure at scale. Google requires apps that access Gmail to pass an independent Cloud Application Security Assessment (CASA). Why not just use email forwarding?

Forwarding relays send email on behalf of your original server, which can damage its sender reputation and trigger spam filters at Gmail. PopRelay takes a different approach: it fetches messages from your POP3 server and imports them directly through the Gmail API. No forwarding relay. No SPF/DKIM issues. No reputation damage.

How does PopRelay prevent duplicate imports?

Every message on a POP3 server has a unique identifier (UIDL). PopRelay records each UIDL after successful import. If you sync again, or if a message was already imported, it is skipped.

What happened to Gmail's built-in POP3 fetching?

Google removed the "Check mail from other accounts" POP3 feature from Gmail in early 2026. PopRelay replaces that functionality. It runs outside of Gmail, fetches your POP3 mail on schedule, and imports it via the Gmail API. No Google feature dependency. No browser extension.

What POP3 servers do you support?

Any standard POP3 or POP3S (SSL/TLS) server works, including ISP email, old hosting accounts, and enterprise mail servers.

Will my original emails be deleted?

Only if you explicitly enable "Delete after retrieval." By default, we leave your POP3 mailbox untouched.

How fast is the import?

Import speed depends on your source POP3 server, mailbox size, and Gmail API throughput. Smaller mailboxes can finish quickly, while larger migrations may take longer.

Are there any Gmail import limits?

Gmail applies API limits that can affect import throughput. PopRelay handles pacing and retries automatically so imports stay reliable without manual tuning.

Do imported emails go through Gmail's spam filter?

Yes. Gmail treats imported emails like any other incoming mail, including spam filtering.
